Bible Lesson 142

The Truth Abouth The End Of Time and Beyond

“And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet?”
Matthew 24: 6

” The final chapter of human history is solely God’s decision, and even now He is everywhere, active in grace or judgment. Never in all history have men spoken so much of end-time, yet been so shrouded in ignorance of God’s impending doomsday.”
Carl F.H. Henry

In this lesson we want to look at the facts of the End of Time and then what lies beyond. The answer to a question that always lingers in the back of the minds of those who read and comprehend the Word of God, it is simple and straight forward. The question was asked by the disciples of Christ, in Matthew 24:3, and that verse tells us’ Now as He (Jesus ) sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be’ And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age'”

I write this lesson with the firm belief that God inspired me to speak to the unhappy fact, that many people have come to the place that they believe, with a kind of Gnostic arrogance, that they can set dates which God has forbidden, and read into the inspired, inerrant Word of God, using different codes that others do not have, to find out things that God has not allowed His children to know.

We all need to know that there are some things that only God knows; and will not allow us to know. We do not need to know those things because they are so glorious and marvelous, that we would not be able to understand them, “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the works of this law.” (Deuteronomy 29:29). That tells us that we need to study the revealed Word of God, the Bible, and leave to God those things that belong to him alone.

God did not leave a confusing or convoluted message in His revelation of Himself to man. God says things that we are able to understand, at least for those who have the Spirit of God in them and on them. We as humans must learn to read the Scriptures as they are written and take them literally. They were written to be understood by those who are seeking God and will never make sense to the carnal (fleshly) mind because the carnal mind is at enmity against God, and if you are not aware, enmity means ‘enemy’.

The carnal mind is on self and selfish desires and so will never allow itself to be subject to the law of God, it is an impossibility (Romans 8:5-7). That is the reason that we had so many people disposing of their worldly goods upon a prediction from a man who has proven himself over and over to be a false prophet. I won’t use his name because I don’t want to give him and his followers that recognition. He has developed an empire so to speak stemming from a radio that goes by the name Family Radio ( No connection to the Christian American Family Association).

He nor his followers will concern themselves with God’s Word as it is written, instead they have developed and used a system of Numerology (Numbers) that they say opens up the Bible to better understanding. It should be clear that he is not very good at math, if that is what he using, because He has predicted the end of the World and put a date on it, in at least three different occasions and the world stands today as it did before he came along. The people that follow him are not Christians; because Christians do not set aside the clear revelation of God, in favor of the trendy sly of hand things like this.

Our Savior Jesus Christ, warned us in His Sermon on the Mount about people like this man and his deceived followers, and in Matthew Chapter 7 and verses 13-16 (NKJV), Jesus preached and said to us “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life and there are few who find it. Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits.” Don’t you find it interesting that God in the flesh spoke to us and said, there are two gates and two ways and two destination; and then added as a precaution to keep us from making the error of choosing the wrong gate and walking the wrong way and ending up in hell rather than heaven’.God says Beware of false prophets like the gentleman who predicted the end of the world would come on May 21, 2011, or any other person who contradicts the clear teaching of God, which exist only in the Bible.

It has to be, that false prophets want to make their lively-hood on the backs and shoulders of simple people who do not read and believe what the Bible teaches: or who are afraid to preach the hard saying contained in the gospel (at least to unrepentant sinners), and so they find some play-thing that captures the minds and hearts of those who follow them. I don’t know if you have noticed it or not but people tend to have a herd instinct. Those of you who have ever worked with cattle or sheep know what I’m talking about. If you get one or two cows or sheep heading in a certain direction, the rest tend to follow after them. That is the reason that some people will end up in a line of people and have no idea what the line is there for, or where it is going.

We are followers, and it seems that the more anti-Christian, the idea, or the people who espouse them are, the closer we follow them. Perhaps it is because we love the idea and the ideal all too often of the bunch in Hollywood. They or at least too many of them seem to want to leave the hypocrisy of their work and speak to subjects too high and holy for them to even consider. I want you all to know that Hollywood is all about hypocrisy, actors are hypocrites. Think about this what they do is to portray someone or something that is not themselves. They in fact, live lives in which they are always changing masks. One day they are a lover, and the next an axe murderer. Yet, we seem to want to hang on every word that they say when they come out from under their masks. Someone that I read recently said, “America needs to stop listening to the voices of men whose passions and lusts are set on fire by hell, and begin to once again see that still, small voice that leads us in the path of righteousness for His namesake.” I believe that is on the point for America today.

We have begun that downward slide that comes ever so slightly but ever so regularly, because we have decided to do our ‘own thing’ and to simply make the Word of God go along with what we want to do. We can think that that will work and act like that is working for us; however we will be judged in the end by the Word and Will of God. Just think about what we have worked hard in recent years to change about the Word and Will of Almighty God. God has said and demonstrated to us and for us that marriage is sacred between one man and one woman (Genesis 2:18-24; Matthew 19:1-9).

God had a reason for defining and commanding that marriage be between a man and woman and an obvious reason is that it enables child-birth which is the way that man keeps the race going. Yet we have elected a president who is outspoken in favor of same-sex marriage. We have soft pedaled the Word of God about homosexuality in our churches and we now have them parading their nakedness and ungodly lifestyles and demanding laws to protect, what God has said, was an abomination to Him (Leviticus 18:22; Leviticus 20:13). The church has stood with it’s hands over it’s eyes, ears, and mouths, as the institution of marriage has fallen to the point that over 50% of marriage today are failing.

They did that by being so tolerant about people “shacking up”, or living together without the benefit of marriage. Many churches today overlook most kinds of sin in those who come to join their roles, and we have lowered the standards of the Bible in so many cases, in order to accommodate sinners. Most sins begin and escalate because the visible church has nothing to say about them. Unless we keep the pressure of the Word and Will of God on those who sit in the pulpits, we signal the community we occupy, that we don’t really care.

What does that have to do with some man attempting to set the date that God was going to send His Son Jesus Christ back to end time and proceed with the judgment’ It is the seed that would allow him to do it without fear of anyone calling his hand. If we don’t care if people trespass and practice homosexuality, and adultery, fornication or abortion, and all the other sins that the church seems to have washed it’s hands of most sin. The man who pronounced more than once that on a certain date, the world would end, felt no pressure to stick to the Bible, which clearly says that no man knows (and Jesus included Himself), except God the Father. The visible churches of our day have a problem’.it does not know what it believes, or why we believe it, of even if it matters.

The denominations as a whole do not really know, so how can the people in the pews know. There is an old joke or saying about the people in the pews of our churches and in many cases it extends to the Pulpits, that when most members of our churches are asked what they believe, they will say ‘I believe what my church believes; and when asked further what their church believes, they say that their churches believes what their denomination believes, and when asked what their denominations believe they reply they believe what I believe.’

That highlights the fact that for the most part, church members are theologically illiterate. Decades ago, the churches began to look to numbers, by that I mean, churches began to think that a church had to have a building, a big building, a costly building in order to really be pleasing to God. That carried with it the necessity for a large monthly offering to pay the bills that come with that building. Certainly, there can be no large tithes and offerings, without a large congregation, and that necessitated that we find a way to attract more people.

Now attracting people to the church is much like attracting people to a ball game or to a movie, we have to offer them something other than plain preaching which always begins with the fact that everyone of us is born depraved, in trouble with God because of our sin nature, and unable to do anything about it. That meant that man must build that kind of church, when in fact, the true Church is built by Jesus Christ (Matthew 16:18). What the visible church consists of is a mixture of lost and saved people and I believe that most of the members of our churches are lost people. The church congregation is confused and so it makes sense that what we represent to the communities around us is confusion.

I am going to leave that right there because I said it to point up the problem with our understanding of God and God’s purposes, and that is the reason that we have people like the man who has now announced the end of the world on four distinct occasions (September 7, 1994; May 21, 1988; May 21, 2011, and when the last one failed to develop he announced that October 21, 2011, would be the end of the world. How did he supposedly arrive at these dates’ He believes that God hid certain things from His people and that the Bible has a secret Numerology system that reveals God’s truth to special people and I suppose that he is one of them since not many other people are ignorant enough to attempt to do things that even Christ said that He did not know, and neither angels knew.

Christ said that God the Father was the only One who knew that time (Matthew 24:36). Now what did Christ say would be the names of these who would attempt to set that time’ False apostles, dreamers who deserve death, and presumptuous prophets who we should be afraid of, (Corinthians 11:13-15; Deuteronomy 13:1-4; Deuteronomy 18:22). God warns us throughout the Bible to beware of false prophets, false preachers and those who would make any changes to the Word of God, so people who are literate and understand the Bible are never caught up in the kind of preaching and teaching that attempts to place a date on the end of the world.

Who would believe, and I mean really believe that kind of lie’ Apparently there were and are many who believe it, and they quit their jobs and disposed of their earthly treasure in preparation for the end time on the date established by this preacher (‘) who said the world would end. This preacher and I will not call his name (God has it), operates from a base radio program in California, called Family Radio. In 2009 the IRS found that the program had received 18.3 Million dollars and had assets of over 104 Million, which incidentally the prophet did not dispose of before the date that he had set. He said ‘I still have to live in a house, and drive a car! Is this fella crazy or just confused’

He is not crazy in the classical sense of the word. What he is doing, is what so many of today’s preachers (either wittingly or unwittingly) are doing as they call themselves under-shepherds of the Lord, they are leading in a pragmatic way a congregation of people who are Biblically illerate and unaware of the direction they are going. Some of them use signs and wonders to lead people astray; others use the scriptures as a jumping off place to go and chase ‘rabbits’ that are not in the scriptures; others openly contradict the Bible; others bear bad fruit which marks them as false prophets; usually you will find that all men speak well of these who preach to itching ears (Luke 6:26). These men all have one thing in common, they are wolves in sheep’s clothing, and although they carry a Bible and open it sometimes when they preach, they are leading men away from the truths of God. (Matthew 7:15; Deuteronomy 13:14; Deuteronomy 18:22; Isaiah 8:20;Matthew 7:15-20;).

I suppose that this would be a good place to really define true preaching. Just what does God says preaching is, and how it is to be done’ First and foremost it must be done by a man called and equipped of God to preach His Word. This is a man that God has not only saved but one whom God has equipped in a special way to understand and to explain God’s Word. This man must then know God’s Word and believe it and then He must Preach the Word of God! He must always be ready at a moments notice to preach the word, in season and out (in other words regardless of the time or conditions). He must and will be able to use the Word of God to convince, rebuke, and exhort with all long-suffering and teaching (2nd Timothy 4:1-5).

What will it take for us to get back to the point that we won’t believe old wives’ tales and fables’ It will take individuals and the church as a whole being honest with God and with themselves, as we first make up our minds whether we are able to believe that God is and He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Then we must come to the point that we believe the Bible, as the inspired inerrant Word of God. We must accept it in it’s context and believe it to the point of obeying it.

It will take time but we have all of the time that God will allow us to remain on the earth. It will take prayer and striving to find it in context and then to live according to it. If you are satisfied with your understanding of God’s Word and Will, then you continue on, but if you have accepted someone else’s understanding without opening your Bible and checking it out for yourself, then beware. Pray about what you have read and then read and study your Bible, both the Old and the New Testaments. Let’s become people of the Book again and the Book that I speak of is the Bible, the Revelation of God to His creatures.

Until next time,

may God bless and keep you
