Bible Lesson 164

Do you have room for Jesus?

Jesus said. . . “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.” Matthew 8:20

“The Son of Man came to seek and save that which was lost, and He knocks on doors but not many will let Him in!” Luke 19:10; Revelations 3:20; Matthew 7:13-14.

Isn’t is amazing how truly unaware man really is, when it comes to understanding his place in this world, knowing what is important for his own welfare, and preparing for his eternal life, after his certain death. It is easy and convenient for us to wake up like geese every morning, and think to ourselves that everybody we meet will be a Christian, simply because there was a man called Jesus Christ, that people say died on a cross. The story is a bit more involved than that.

First, if we read the Bible it will become evident to us that now everyone is a Christian, not every one will go to heaven, and not everyone has a real concern for anything past today. We have lived on this earth and enjoyed sin for a season, that we are really unable to a degree, just where we stand with our Creator. We might as well own up to our sin?.and that sin is that we have left God and His Will for our lives behind many years ago and we have continued on a path that has brought us to the sin of idolatry.

We have become idolaters in the first water. Think about what I just accused people of! It was that I said that they are idolaters, not all but most of our church members today are worshiping a god of their own making. Most did not do that on purpose, they did it because they depended on someone else to tell them the truth.

The visible Church of our day began many years ago to want something different than God and we need to appear more relevant than we had been when we followed God’s Word and His will. Let me make a prediction right here?.America may never again be a nation that is the heart and core of Christianity.

We may remain the capital of religion(s), but we will continue down the slippery slope of cheap grace until we will need real Ambassadors of Christ to leave their countries and come here to bring us back to what God wants instead of what denominational leader want. We like to call ourselves ?people of the book’; however we don’t know the Book (Bible).

We are like the people that the Apostle Paul warned Timothy about, when he said ‘But know this , that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!” (2nd Timothy 3:1-5). We could take those verses and substitute America in the places where it describes people in the last days and it would paint a picture of the majority of people in America today.

The question now becomes’ did we get to this terrible place where we have walked away from God, and Jesus Christ who is our only help and hope’ The answer is simple, we became comfortable and were lulled to sleep by those preachers and pastors and teachers “who crept in, who were long ago marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Jude 4). We enjoyed this new kind of preaching that never confronted, and rebuked our sin. We loved this kind of preaching, that was always ‘peace, peace’ but now we discover that in that kind of religiosity there is never peace with God. Sinners are willful and hardheaded, lazy and slothful, carnal and unyielding, so they must be ‘softened up’ by God before they will be what God created man to be.

I can almost hear a great crowd of church members, yelling ‘we are saved by grace, not by works’ ! that is true we are saved by Grace through Faith in Jesus Christ; however when God saves a person by His Grace, they are people who have been radically changed by God in salvation. What the church did decades ago, was to leave God at the curb and charge off to save the world with a message that pretty much left God out of salvation, and now we have bought into that pretty much universally, so we would be embarrassed to admit that we are not saved so that we could go back and find God and follow His instructions about salvation. The church was demeaned, and damned by the folly of ‘Church Growth’, which in reality was a program of Satan which moved every thing that was of God aside, and began to do whatever was necessary to add members to it’s rolls. Don’t tell me that it is not so, because I have witnessed it time and again and you probably have too, but you didn’t know the difference. If you were fooled by the church growth methods for salvation, thank God you are reading this lesson because your soul is probably in jeopardy.

Not one person, no matter how well meaning they may have been, or how uninformed they may have been, or what they thought they experienced at the time, will ever enter into heaven. That is the problem that many in our day have. The solution to that is to come back to God and own your sin, repent, and be converted by God and if that happens, my Bible says that God will save you, birth you and burp you and guide you to righteousness. (Ephesians 2:1-10; 2nd Corinthians 5:17). Once you are saved and indwelled by the Holy Spirit, in Christ, then you will know that you have room for Jesus Christ because He will fill you life and live through you (Galatians 2:20).

Then and only then, will you know in your heart of hearts that you will never face God’s wrath, and you will never be condemned (Romans 8:1-11). So many Church members today live in doubt because they know that there is something about the way that they live and believe that is not godly. They don’t have any power, and they do not have any assurance of their salvation. They do some things that are churchy, like going to church and praying and paying their tithes, but there is no room for Jesus in their lives. We, for the most part, set up a kind of schedule that has six days for us to be worldly, and one day to go to church, but we have no room for Jesus Christ in our lives.

Remember, when Jesus left heaven and came to this sin sick world of darkness and sickness and death and pain, the world had no room for him. Jesus Christ, the One that created the world and all that is in it, had to be born in a farm stall and laid in a manger. The world had no room for Him and that has not changed over the thousands of years since He came and substituted Himself on that cross where you and I deserved to be nailed, to die, be buried, resurrected, and ascended back into heaven, where He sits today at the right hand of God. We have a wonderful promise from God, if we are truly saved, born again and obedient, and that is that He is coming again to gather up His sheep’those who know His voice and follow Him (John 10:1-5). Only those who have been reborn by God have any room for Jesus Christ in their lives; all others are too busy living for and like the devil, who is their father (John 8:44).

Most of the accounts we hear from our bible teachers (preachers, teachers, pastors), are simply myths, that keep us from really understanding the truth about the only One who can save us from the wrath of God (1st Corinthians 2:1-5; 2nd Corinthians 2:14-17, 5:10; 2nd Corinthians 11:13-15; 2nd Corinthians 13:5). We have lived through a time when the church has been in a state of flux, and we have been damaged by the utter lack of discipleship from those few who were sidelined by leadership, because their knowledge did not match the myths that came out of ‘programs’ invented by the associations and conventions of the major denominations. Many times these programs used language that sounded like church language but the heart of the programs were fleshly and only went skin deep. Christianity, contrary to current beliefs, are all Christ focused, not flesh focused.

The church has a duty to minister to social problems where it is clearly indicated, but it is never done simply to meet the felt needs of the church or those who are receiving the aid. If we are going to be honest in our teaching we have to know that the church is a place where Jesus Christ has room, and in fact fills every room. The church has a responsibility to teach the precepts and teachings of Christ to those who are truly saved. Those who have been equipped, are duty bound to go out and teach others to obey all that Christ has commanded them (Matthew 28:19-20). Once the church becomes a place where we invite people in to confuse them about what Christianity is all about, then Jesus Christ has no room in that church. The only place where Jesus Christ finds room today, in the lives of men, is when men have presented themselves and their bodies as sacrifices to God (Romans 12:1-2).

Jesus Christ will not take up residence in a place where there is any room for anything or anyone else (Luke 14:26-33). I suppose that it is human nature to want to know at least a little something about what is going on around him, but a ‘little knowledge’ of anything is a danger to anybody. People who have played church for a while like to attempt to make Christianity into something else, something that is not so narrow and focused. I heard a person say the other day, that Christianity, for the most part, is too intolerant of other religions like Muslims, Hindus and others, however he never qualified his statement; and other things that he said gave me the impression that what he wants to do is to mix and match the only religion that is really authentic (Christian), with these other false religions. Now, if you are of the opinion that he was right and I am being intolerable, then you are at odds with God and His Word the Bible. These other religions that he was speaking of are pagan religions and pagans have been around a long time but Adam was not a pagan, He knew God and walked with God in the cool of the evening.

Judaism is the earliest form of Christianity and our Christianity today is the perfection of that form of worship, even if the Jews still use that form prior to their conversion. God sent His Son Jesus Christ, at just the right time, to the earth to pay the sin debts of those who were the elect in eternity, and Jesus Christ is the Only ..Only..Only name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved (Acts 4:12). As we said a few lines ago, when Jesus came to earth the first time, as the suffering servant, to die as our substitute on the cross, He found that there was not room for Him in the world. Jesus live and served and walked and preached for over thirty years before He went to the cross, the only place that He found, that most of the people wanted Him to be. The world and the worldly had no time nor place for Jesus but in the end Heaven had the place for Him, at the right hand of God the Father.

Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of our salvation, that is if we are truly saved. He was rejected by his people (The Jews), but He remained the cornerstone of salvation. What we do or do not do, is of no effect when it comes to salvation; because salvation is all of God. Mankind never makes room for Jesus to come into their lives, it takes a work of God in the New Birth to cleanse a life and make it fit habitation for Christ and His Throne (Psalms 3:8; Psalms 85:9; Psalms 119:155; Acts 4:12; Romans 1:16-18; Romans 2:4-11; Galatians 3:10; Galatians 2:20; Ephesians 2:1-10; John 1:10-13).

There are those who teach that we can be saved, but not take Jesus Christ as our Lord: that they claim is simply a second blessing! That is absurd and if you have been fooled into believing that you need to read Romans 10:9-10, which states , “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the LORD Jesus, and shall believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” In our fallen state we would never reach out to God, we are His enemies (He is not ours). We are all born ‘dead in trespass and sin, and God has to quicken us ( bring life to a spirit within us that can and will commune with God), before we can have any spiritual dealings with God (Ephesians 2:1). Man has no ability to reestablish any link to God and God must reach out to make a way for man to receive Christ which is the only way a person is ever saved. (Read Romans chapter 11:1-25; John 15:16; Matthew 24:24,31; Ephesians 1:1-5; John 17:1,6,9,23).

Just as none of us had any part in our births here on the earth, we have absolutely no part in our salvation. Certainly, once God extends His Grace and mercy to us in the new birth, we are cooperative in doing all that the Holy Spirit, who has taken up residence in us leads us to do; but the saving has already been accomplished. We who were children of darkness, whose father was Satan, are now Children of God, Children of light (John 8:44; John 3:16-21). Before God worked to save us we had no room for Jesus because Christ has no part in darkness, He is the light of the world. We come to a point that we see others that seem to enjoy life and they sometimes go to church and call themselves Christians, and so we go find us a church where we can at least abide the hour or so every Sunday that attend church, we make a professions that we believe and we settle in to wait to die, but if we died in that state we would go to hell for eternity, because we do not know Jesus and we will not give up self in our lives in order to make room for Jesus Christ.

If we are honest with ourselves, most churches and church members today are people who have not ever studied the Bible and asked God to illuminate it for them. They have made professions of faith but have never gone past the churches formal acceptance of that profession, to really learn and live what the Bible tells us to do, in order to have that intimate relationship with Christ.

We are people who are happy with the idea of going to church and after a while that becomes a habit, just like smoking, drinking, eating or working, we are alive but we are dead inside, we have made no room for Jesus. Instead of us going to church on Saturdays or Sundays, we need to be the church every day of the week, at home, work, play or at church. Our actions in our lives are an insult to God; because we highjack the name of Christ but never show the results of knowing Him.

We never seem to be able to understand Who God is and What marvelous power He has. We seem to think of God as some kind of medal or certificate that we are issued when we join a church group. How in the world did we ever come to such low and unholy estimate of God, who actually spoke the worlds into being, and has maintained them since the six days he took to create all that we know. What we need to understand is, that He did not need six day or five days or even one whole day, but He wanted to give mankind a Cosmic understanding of the seven day cycle which works with man to keep him at his peak of enjoyment of life. How can we think of God as someone who sent His One and Only Son Jesus Christ to die for the sins of those who would obey Him (Hebrews 5:8-9), and then believe that those who are saved will never be able to live for a moment any better than they lived as fallen sinners. God commands us to be different, and that is the reason that God does everything involved in every man’s salvation.

God calls us and quickens us, regenerates (rebirths) us, justifies us, sanctifies and glorifies us. He gives us His Holy Spirit, who takes us permanent residence in us to teach, led, guide, and empower us, to lead a new life, a different life that will glorify God in the sight of mankind (Romans 8:28-30). God takes us away from our father in the flesh to His Fatherhood in the Spirit, and He gives us the desire and the ability to walk in newness of life (Romans 6:4). God does not sit in heaven and wait until we walk some church aisle, shake some preachers hand and profess to receive His son Jesus Christ, to save us. God determined to save us before the foundation of the earth, and He saves us in time while we live here on the earth.

We are not identified to anyone except the God Himself, but our names are written in His book in heaven and when He decides that we are to be saved, He calls us out, imputes the righteousness of His Son Jesus Christ to us, Justifies us because of faith which is His gift to us, and gives us the new birth, which recreates us ‘in His Son Jesus Christ’. That is the way salvation works and we have nothing to do with it except to begin to live like a new creature when we are saved. (Ephesians 2:1-10; 2nd Corinthians 5:17; Ephesians 1:4; Romans 8:28-30).

The question that each of us must ask of himself is, has God supernaturally changed us, or are we still that same old sinner that we were before some church group accepted us as a member’ Do you seriously think that everyone who walks a church aisle and professes to love Jesus is really saved’

Most churches must believe that because we never see a church turn some sinner away or even put them on trial for a while to see if they have really become that “New Creature in Christ” that is spoken of in Ephesians 2:10. We may like to remain ignorant while we live on the earth but ignorance or excuse will not be enough in the judgment. Till next time’think on these things as your read the scriptures and pray.

Until next time,

may God bless and keep you
