Bible Lesson 165

Jacob’s Trouble, The Tribulation, The End of The World

“Alas! For that day is great, So that none is like it; And it is the time of Jacob’s trouble, But he shall be saved out of it.” Jeremiah30:7

“At the day of Doom men shall be judged according to their fruits. It will not be said then, Did you believe? But, Were you doers, or talkers only. JOHN BUNYAN

Since, the theme over the past year of so has been, in one way of another, the end of the World, we will issue this lesson to attempt to set straight some of the misunderstanding of just what the end of the world will be, and what the God of the Word, and the Word of God has to say about it. First, the earth will come to an end as God judges His creation and destroys it to establish a perfect earth. The first area of concern seems to be “If the world is to end when will it end; will it be announced before it happens, and what will take place. God’s judgment is very involved; however we can know much about it; but only what God has left us.

We can toss out our Mayan calendars, and all of the false prophesies that have been put forth lately, and be satisfied with what we are told in the Bible. Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, told His disciples, “But of that day and hour, no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.” (Matthew 24:36). In the gospel of Mark, we are told further that not even Christ knew. Christ has self-limited Himself in His flesh, and the angels did not know?so the end is in the purview of God the Father.(Mark 13:32). That does not mean that when it happens that Father, Son and Holy Spirit will not be in agreement about it.

Christ did not give them a time and date, but He did instruct them to look at what would be going on around them and us, when the end would come suddenly. Jesus told His disciples and He is speaking to us today from the Bible, that when the end comes, people will be doing the same things that people were doing back in Noah’s day when the rain began to fall around Noah’s Ark. Noah had been preaching for 120 years, but the people ignored him, in their haste to eat, drink, marry and give in marriage, just like we do today.

We normally get up every day not even thinking about what God has warned us would happen, and we eat, drink, and do whatever the world has for us to do in that day. These people were not interested in what God was saying to them through Noah, until the water began to climb up their legs; and then it was too late, because God “closed the door of the Ark”.(Genesis 7:16).They had their chance, they knew and were responsible for the Judgment of God that fell upon them at that time.

It is important that we remember that there is going to be a Judgment of mankind by God and we don’t know when that will be, only God knows; however, we dare not forget that every day is judgment day for everyone who dies in that day. Their die has been cast and they have no room to repent of their sin. They will face another judgment at the end of time, but their sentence is hell for eternity. Remember what God tells us in Hebrews 9:27, where God inspired the writer of Hebrews to write’..” It is appointed for man to die once, but after this the judgment.” As people who care for the eternal souls of mankind, we must begin to think more about the Judgment of God in the last time.
We know that it is over 2000 years closer today, than it was when Jesus Christ died on the cross. Jesus died on that Cross to redeem those who would obey Him.(Hebrews 5:8-9). If Jesus loved souls enough to be nailed to the cross under the weight of sin and suffer a just punishment for them: to die and be buried and on the third day rise from the grave; then surely we should love souls enough to obey God in warning those we can about their need of a Savior. I hope and pray that this commentary on the end time will cause some to think, and act to do all that they can in the power of God to snatch some out of the fire.

One thing that we do not want to do as we look at the end times is to take what God has said, and go off on flights of fancy and make up things that intrigue us and others. Let’s take what God has said about the end times and understand it literally. Notice how organized and precise our God is as you read the Revelation. After we read the first three chapters of Revelation we should get the idea that God cares about those who are the ‘called out’ ones. The church or the place where those who are called of God meet, is important to God and as you read those three chapters remind yourself that God is aware of our churches today.

Judgment must begin at the church (1st Peter 4:17-19). As we read chapter four, we know that we are looking into the throne room of heaven, where every thing we read speaks of Glory and beauty and perfection. We hear the four living creatures constantly crying, “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come” We are pointed toward the beauty, the Throne and the One sitting on the throne, plus 24 thrones around that throne, Jasper (like a diamond, and Sardius (like a fiery ruby), and a rainbow around the Throne like an emerald. Note: the rainbow we recognize as the sign God gave to Noah after the flood: that God would never again destroy the earth with water.

We see white robes and golden crowns, lightnings and thundering and voices, seven lamps of fire burning, which are the seven Spirits of God. We see a sea of glass, like crystal,(Now we know from Revelation 21:1 that there is no sea in heaven, but the appearance of the pavement (floor) is like crystal. We see creatures like we have never seen before, and 24 elders who fall before God and cast their crowns at His feet. Heaven is so spectacular and beautiful, that the Apostle was not capable of explaining it, as he attempts to tell us what he saw. We begin the depth of our study of the end times by looking into heaven through the Apostle Paul’s eyes and we should be spell-bound; however as we proceeded we will begin to see hell on earth.

The idea of this lesson is not to attempt to scare anyone into ‘professing belief’ , rather it is to show people that God does not change and being perfectly, perfect in all aspects, He naturally has to judge not only the creature but His creation. It is my hope that Preachers who read this message will undertake to warn people who do not know God through Jesus Christ, that the judgment could be today or tomorrow’..we do not know the day or the hour but we know that it is going to happen, and the tribulation that will precede it will be a terrible thing; however the truly saved will not have to go through that tribulation, instead they will be snatched away by God to be with Christ forever. We refer to that time as the rapture of the Bride of Christ, the church. Let me be clear right here; because there are those who believe that the rapture will not occur until mid-tribulation, or even after the tribulation period.

I firmly believe that Scripture and the nature of God , proves that we who are the children of God, born again and obedient to Him, will be spared that tribulation because we were saved from wrath, in the moment we believed and turned to God. God tells us in Romans 3:10, that He will “keep us from the hour of temptation, which is the tribulation period. And even if we as God’s children were to have to experience a portion of the tribulation, we have the assurance of God that “Nothing can separate us from the love of God, Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword’ And we know that there is nothing that can separate us from our Savior. We can look back to Enoch, in Genesis 5:23-24, and there we find a man who walked with God and suddenly he was gone’God had taken Him. In that same fashion God will remove those who lived like Enoch, lived by God’s rules and God took him to heaven around death.

We can remember that Lot made several bad decisions when He separated from Abraham and he ended up in a terrible place where homosexuality was rampant. God sent two angels into Sodom to get Lot and his family out before God rained down fire from heaven to burn up those that were there. God made sure that he got out those who would follow His directions. You should remember the account of how the angels had to lead Lot and his family out by the hand’.but Lot’s wife turned back to look at Sodom and she was turned into a pillar of salt. Lot and his two daughters finally were rescued and God completely destroyed the five cities of the plain.(Geneses 19:1-29).

We will continue on with that line of thinking later but right now, let’s look at what is going to happen in the tribulation period. The thing that will begin the tribulation is not the Anti-Christ or his minions or his schedule; instead the tribulation which will end with the Great White Throne Judgment and sinners being dispatched into eternal flames and torment, will begin at and on God’s schedule. Listen closely as we find God the Father, on His Throne with a Scroll written inside and on the back, and sealed with seven seals. Each of the seven seals when broken will release part of God’s judgment on the earth and it’s inhabitants. The first thing we observe in our study of Chapter 5 of the Revelation is that it was thought that no one in heaven was qualified to open the seals and read the scroll. Then an elder said “Do not weep, Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll, and loose the seven seals. And as the apostle looked he saw a Lamb, as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of the God sent out into the earth. Then the Lamb took the scroll out of the hand of Him who sat upon the Throne. Amidst the praying and singing and bowing and the worship taking place in heaven, we see ten thousand times ten thousands, and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice praising the Father and the Son.

Then Jesus broke the first seal and we see, a white horse; and the one who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him and he went out to conquer. We are told that this white horse represents an unparalleled time of world peace. It will be a false peace, which will usher in man’s false messiahs, who will culminate with the Anti-Christ. We know from recent actions here in America that we are ready and perhaps, even anxious, to usher in a Messiah, in fact the administration that is now in power here in this land of the Free and the Home of the brave, are worshipping what they want for a Messiah. We had another one just a few years ago that people voted to have lead them who was ushered into the Oval office with much cheering. It wasn’t long before he was impeached by the congress but was never punished by the Senate. Neither of these are the Anti-Christ; but they both are forerunners, who are preparing us for the Anti-Christ’s arrival. One is (if you look in the dictionary) a proven Sodomite, that is if you look at the definition of the word sodomite in your dictionary. There are many people in America right now who seem to be in concert with the Anti-Christ, because they have lead us toward global government, global religion, global control and all kinds of treaties that bind us from the freedom that we once had.

Watch how these seals of Revelation chapter 4, gradually build and climax in destruction and death. WE have to remember that at the end of time, there will be great horror and things happening that have never happened before, including the Tribulation, which will affect, and effect the entire world; but it will be centered and focused in and on the nation of Israel. In Genesis, God made a covenant with Abraham, (Genesis 12:1-3)and that covenant has not been completed or fulfilled. That will be completed at the end time, at which time God will judge the guilty (sinners) plus the creation, the earth. The First seal when broken by the only One who was worthy (Jesus Christ, God in the flesh). When Christ breaks the first seal the Anti-Christ is revealed, the Second seal reveals war, the Third seal reveals famine, the Fourth, revealed a fourth of all of the people on earth killed, the Fifth seal reveals the cry of those who have been slain for their Christian testimony. Then comes the sixth seal ‘a great earthquake, the sun turns black, and the moon like blood, and the stars fall from heaven. The sky rolls back like a scroll, and the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hide themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains’and begged for the mountains and rocks to fall on them to hide them from the face of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb!

For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand'” Remember now the first time that Jesus came to this earth He came to save His people from their sin, when He comes at the end, He will come in His wrath, to judge the quick and the dead. Let me take time right here to remind you that if you are truly saved, born again by God and In Christ, you will be with Christ in heaven and will not suffer these and the others calamities that are going to occur at the end of time. We as Christians will be judged (Not for condemnation but for rewards), but that happens between the time that Jesus comes in the clouds and raptures His bride and our arrival to be with Him forever. I will just briefly describe what happens next and encourage you to read and study the Revelation; because reading it carries with it a promised blessing (Revelation 1:3). At this point in the Judgment, the 144,000 are sealed’12 thousand each from the tribes of Judah, Reuben, Gad, Asher, Naphtali, Manasseh, Simeon, Levi, Issachar, Zebulun, Joseph, and Benjamin.

These will be evangelists; and there will be people saved during the Tribulation. Notice this is part of the covenant that God made with Abraham back in Genesis, His nation will be a blessing to all nations. (God never forgets!). There is yet one more seal to be broken and when that seal is broken it opens up seven trumpets judgments. The first trumpet brings destruction to a third of the trees and all green grass, The second trumpet brings something like a great mountain burning with fire thrown into the sea and a third of the sea became blood, and a third of the creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed, the third trumpet sounds and a great star falls from heaven, burning like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of the water’.the star that fell was named wormwood (poison), and many men died after drinking the water. The fourth trumpet sounds, and a third of the sun was struck, at third of the moon, and a third of the stars and they were all darkened, and a third of the day and a third of the night were dark, than an angel flying through the midst of heaven saying Woe, Woe, Woe to the inhabitants of the earth, because of the remaining blasts of the trumpet of the three angels who are about to sound!

Then the fifth trumpet sounded, and a star (an angelic being, possibly Satan himself) falls from heaven to the earth, and was given a key to the bottomless pit, and smoke arose like the smoke of a great furnace, and out of the smoke locusts came upon the earth with power as the scorpions of the earth. They were commanded not to harm the grass of the earth or any green thing, or any tree, but only those men who did not the have the seal of God on their foreheads (these are the people who have been saved during the Tribulation.) They were not saved at the time of the rapture, but during the Tribulation, and so they will be protected and go to heaven when they die. These things reminded John, the writer of Revelation, of locust for some reason; however we are told that they had a sting like unto a scorpion. They were like horses prepared for battle. They had faces like men and wore crowns, and breastplates, and wings and they were given power to hurt men for five months. They had Abaddon (destruction) and Apollyon (destroyer) as their king.

I will leave the rest of the Revelation for you to read from your own Bible; but I wanted you to know that there is a Judgment and it will be a terrible judgment, brought directly from heaven by God Himself. There will be one group of people who will not be in that tribulation and judgment and that will be those who have seen themselves as sinners without help and hope, and have turned from sin after repenting and turned to God to follow Him wherever He leads them. Do not attempt to play loose by attempting to make something that you know about fit into what is happening. Take it like God had it written, and thank Him that you will not be a part of all the misery and terror that will be part and parcel of that time when God says enough, and sends His judgment. If you take nothing else from this lesson, take away that the end of the world is a fact, and it forfeit’s the souls of all who read it as fiction and go away blind and lost, without help and hope in the Judgment.

There will be a coming Tribulation and I will not attempt to put a date or time on it; however when it begins, God withdraws His grace from the earth for everyone who has heard the gospel. Those who have felt the call of God on their heart and soul, and have bowed the knee to accept the Lordship of Christ, and have been recreated ‘In Christ’ will be taken up before the Tribulation begins. All others will see this, hell on earth, that the Bible clearly portrays. Everyone of us has an eternity to live, after we pass through the grave here on the earth. There are two distinct locations, two roads, two gates, that we face here on the earth (Matthew 7:13-14). One gate leads us on to one of two roads and one of those roads leads us to hell, but the other leads us to heaven. The gate that leads to that narrow path that leads to eternal life, is Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and that road requires us to be aware, alert and alive to God, it is difficult but it’s reward is heaven.

The other gate is Satan, and he offers us a wide gate and a broad way that appears to go up but instead goes down into the torments of hell. That gate will accommodate anything that the flesh loves, and the road is so wide and smooth that we slide right into hell. What road are you on today’ Do you know Christ in the forgiveness of your sin and are you obedient to all that He has commanded you, if you are not you are simply a church member and you are on the road that goes to hell. Wake up, look up because you do not have much time to attempt to find God. If you are too lazy to do what God requires, you will have to burn and pop and sizzle like a wet log in a hot fireplace. Turn around! Seek the face of God, because there is a Judgment, and hell has no escape hatches. You have been told the truth’now it is up to you, you are responsible for your eternal life.

Think on this ‘.

Until next time,

may God bless and keep you
