Bible Lesson 17

Galatians chapter 5 begins by telling us that we are to stand fast in the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free; and not be entangled again with the yoke of bondage. That is speaking to people who had heard the truth of the word of God and had believed it for awhile until someone came along with a belief system that gave them a little more self control, was more familiar, more like everyone else, something that would tolerate some things that God will not tolerate; and they began to leave the path that God had established, for a path that man had set up.

The Galatians that God was speaking to, through the Apostle Paul, had been convinced in some way by the Judaizers that they needed to mix their new Christianity with the old perverted (by men) ways of worship. God was speaking to them, through Paul, and saying ?Stand fast in the liberty that Christ has given you??.don?t be entangled again in the belief that you can ever keep the law and gain heaven as a result. The Law was given to man to teach him how far he had moved away from God and to condemn man, if man refused to turn to faith in Jesus Christ.

Those who truly believe in Christ and, as a result, obey all that He has told us to do, are free from sin and death, free to serve God by the power of God that is in us in the Holy Spirit.

What I?m saying is that we are saved only in the way that God says that we are saved; and once we are saved we have the only road-map that is available for the true Christian and that is the Bible.

God has already done all that he wanted or needed to do to save those who would truly commit to him and there will never be another sacrifice. We must come to Jesus, with our hearts and minds and souls determined to do all that the Word of God says that we will do. We never do this in the flesh; because the flesh is weak; but we are indwelled and submitted to the Holy Spirit in us and He leads us and enables us to do all that God requires of us.

Yes, God demands much of the true Christian, nothing of the church-member, but much from those who are truly saved; and God provides the will and the enablement for us to do what He wills. (Philippians 2:13).

Christ died for us and now as children of God we must live for him.

We are saved by Grace through Faith; and then Grace takes over to teach us how to please God. Titus 2:11-12 tells us, “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness, and worldly lust, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world.”

The question now becomes?..are we doing that?

Until next time,

may God bless and keep you
