Bible Lesson 187

“WE SHALL SEE GOD!” Matthew 5:8 – Part I

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”

“Not only with the perception of faith, but in the glory of heaven.” John MACARTHUR.

I will open this lesson with the words to a hymn that will clearly focus our minds on what I believe to be one of the greatest and most blessed thoughts, that can occupy the minds and hearts of those who are true children of God. I pray that you will read these words and really meditate on whether you can sing this song without drawing nearer to God and to that wonderful promise that God left us with, in His Word the Bible; and that is that we who are born again from above, recreated a new creature in Christ and obedient to God’s Commands, will one day enter into heaven and see the face of that one who loved us enough to die for us, in order to buy us back out of sin, and it’s consequence which is hell for eternity.

Would it be asking too much of you to ask that you at least study the words of this song and weigh your life in God’s scales to make sure you will one day see His face in that beautiful land called heaven, where all tears will be wiped away, all fear gone, and where death and hell are not an eternal fear in the back of our minds, and where our souls will be once again, reunited with our glorified bodies.

There is coming a day, When no heart aches shall come, No more clouds in the sky, No more tears in the eye, All is peace forever more, On that happy golden shore, What a day glorious day that will be!

What a day that will be, When my Jesus I shall see, And I look upon His face, the one who saved me by His grace. When He takes me by the hand, and leads me through the promised land, What a day, glorious day that will be.

There’ll be no sorrow there, No more burdens to bear. No more sickness, no pain, No more parting over there. And forever I will be with the One who died for me, What a day, glorious day that will be.

What a day that will be, When my Jesus I shall see, And I look upon His face, The one who saved me by His grace. When He takes me by the hand, and leads me through the promised land, What a day, glorious day that will be.

Now, if you read that and have any knowledge of God, and that does not light your fire??.then your wood must be wet! You may have noticed that this is the first part of a series, and in this series on Heaven, we want to look for and remember several things so be aware as you read this one and as many more as it takes to cover Heaven (If indeed we can ever really cover how much good and glory and grace we will find there). A). We want to compare heaven today and the heaven that is coming. B) The fact that our God is a God that rewards obedience, and punishes disobedience. C) The fact that for the dead in Christ, their souls are with God in heaven, while their bodies are in the grave. D) The fact that One day and it will be sooner than we think, Jesus Christ is coming back to receive His Bride, the Church. E) At that time those graves that are occupied by saved people will be opened and those bodies raised glorified but similar to those that were buried there, F) Then those who are alive and born again Children of God will be raised up to spend eternity in heaven with Christ. All those who were not saved when they died, wherever they may be will not be raised at that time, but will wait another thousand years and then be raised to face the Judgment and condemnation. There will be more points that will be emphasized in the rest of the series; but this will be enough to focus our minds on the subject of heaven.

In this lesson we will look to the, Inspired and Inerrant Word of God, the Bible, to determine something about God’s creation and the relationship of His earth to His heaven. We will begin with the beginning, as we have it in the Word of God, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth”. Thereby we know that God was present in the beginning of the heaven and the earth. God did not begin here, and in fact, God had no beginning, He has always been and will always be, the Sovereign over everything and every place. If God had not been eternal, there would not have been a heaven, nor an earth, because both are eternal. Perhaps not in their present state but eternal. God created both Heaven and earth, and everything that God creates is perfect as it is created, so when God created the earth, it was perfect and it remained perfect, until the perfect creature (Adam) despoiled it, by His sin of disobedience, in the garden.

Remember now, I did not say that the earth we live on is perfect as it stand today; because it is sin sick and worn and it continually groans because it desires to be at rest in eternity with God. As we live here on this earth we desire to be with our Creator in a place vastly different from where we now live. Let’s look back to sometime after the creation, when God had created Adam and took a rib from him and made him a helpmeet, a wife, someone to complete him. God had created everything that was made and it was perfect; however Adam and Eve were the crown jewel in His creation, and so God would have them to know Him in an intimate way, so He created a paradise for them to inhabit (The Garden of Eden), where they would live without much effort, having everything they needed to keep them healthy, and His presence on occasion, to keep them happy. Wherever God walks, is heaven. Adam and Eve were led by the devil who showed up in the Garden of Eden, having possessed one of God’s created animals, and manifesting itself as a serpent.

In the heaven that is the abode of disembodied spirits, Satan was there originally but, was thrown out of heaven because He desired to be like God. We cannot be certain of the time line that Satan arrived on the earth but we know it had to be after Genesis chapter One, and verse thirty-one, because at verse thirty-one of Genesis, God had declared the creation “Very Good”, so Satan could not have been on the earth at that time, for since his arrival on the earth, there has been evil and sin and depravity. (See Isaiah 14:12-15; Ezekiel 28:12-19; Luke 10:18 Revelation 12:4-12; Jude 6; 2nd Peter 2:14). By reading the quoted scriptures you will find that Satan began as an angel (created good) named Lucifer, who was beautiful, and was exalted someway, in heaven, but he like so many of God’s creatures wanted to ?go into business for himself’; he desired to be like God, or be God, and was cast out of heaven and now rules a world that follows him in sin, out of ignorance and depravity. Satan is called the adversary, the accuser of man, and the arch enemy of God, we know that he carried many angels with Him when he was cast out of heaven, and they now exist on the earth with no other aim than to draw people away from God, to Satan and hell. Whenever we as people who are obedient to God feel a desire or an urge to sin, it is the devil and his minions that are drawing us. Do not be fooled, Satan has much power and he can do many things on the earth; God controls Satan, and Satan can do only that which God allows for whatever reason. God has Satan on a short chain, and you can prove that to yourself if you read the Book of Job, Chapter One and verses 1,6-12; 2:1-10. Satan would have killed Job, if God had allowed it, but in all of those trials Job stayed true to his God and He was blessed and in the end of that trial God blessed him with twice what he had originally. Yes, God is God and He can allow trials to occur in the life of His creatures. Have you ever been tried by God, only to be found wanting? Trials cause us to reevaluate our lives and our relationship with our God; and we always come forth from trials, stronger and closer to God than we were before. (James 1:2-8).

The problem with those who claim to have faith in our time is the fact that we do not really have a proper concept and understanding of our Creator God, we will call that Biblical ignorance! There are many today who would declare that they believed in Jesus Christ; but they would openly declare that, man evolved rather than, that God in the beginning created mankind. They find no problem disputing the inerrant Word of God, and they normally deny the power (the changed lives) that comes in Salvation. We cannot blame all of that on the church or the Pastor, or the teachers; because everyone who knows God knows Him in an intimate relationship and they will believe the Word of God; and they will not tolerate it’s being prostituted, in order to draw membership. They know the truth, if they are saved; because they have been taught it by the Holy Spirit who teaches and guides them into all truth (John 16:13-14), and they know it because they have a hunger for the Word of God which cannot be denied, and that hunger drives them to feast upon the Word of God, the Bible (Matthew 5:6).

Those who are ignorant of the Word of God will always draw an improper understanding of Who God really is and How Great and Glorious He is. Our mission (if we are to inherit heaven is to first find God), and with that in mind we must have some kind of road map, something to tell give us the way to God, and the road map includes, God’s grace, Faith in His Son Jesus Christ (His Work and Person), a dieing to self and submission to God, and obedience to His Word the Bible. This all comes about whenever God calls us out of the world and sin, to Himself, and puts the old creature to death, and raises up a new creature with the old things passed away and all things become new, (Romans 8:30; Ephesians 2:1,8-10; 2nd Corinthians 5:17; Romans 6:1-14). The only candidate for heaven is that one who has been through all of the things mentioned in the above scripture. The question now becomes, Do YOU want to go to heaven? I am positive that 99.9% of those who read that question with any understanding would answer yes.

You may not really know much about heaven, but you know that there is a hell for those who do not go to heaven, and only a stone fool would prefer hell over heaven. In the words of J.C. Ryle, “Most would like the crown that comes with heaven, but they do not like the Cross, they would like the glory, but not the grace, the happiness, but not the holiness, the peace but not the truth, the victory but not the fight, the reward, but not the labor. They would like the harvest, but not the plowing, the reaping, but not the sowing” and so the fact is that not many will go to heaven. Jesus Christ, the Lord and Savior of mankind, emphasized that fact in (Matthew 7:13-14), by telling us that the way is difficult and so only a few would find the gate to heaven, or walk that narrow way that gets them there. It is no secret that sinful humans have chosen the default position that requires not real effort. These are the people who live on the edge of intelligence, will accept only that broad gate and wide road that looks like it might lead to heaven but actually opens up in hell.

The find no pleasure in reading God’s Word, and they accept only that little light which they receive from most pulpits in our day, so they attempt to ?save themselves’ by joining some congregation that could care less, because it is made up of lost men and women, who are satisfied with the husks that the pigs leave behind (Luke 15:11-19). These are people who will stumble around in the hog-pen and waste their souls because they have decided that they are good enough to fit into heaven. They never give hell a thought because they have not ever heard much about hell or heaven for that matter. As our populations increased and men were taught that they were pretty good, and worthy of everything that the world could offer them, they mistakenly forgot that heaven is the reward for being one of God’s children. Most people in our day would say ?O, we are all God’s Children’ and that is a lie off the mud-sills of hell. Adam and Eve, were God’s children, until they sinned and then they became just like all of their progeny, children of the devil, who loved to sin.

If you don’t believe that lost people have a Father called Satan, read (John 8:30-44). What has not been stressed by Pastors, Preachers, and Teachers of our day is the fact that God is Good and that God is Just, and that God will one day judge and reward those who have obeyed Him, and condemn and commit to an eternal hell of torment all those who were too busy, or too lazy or too satisfied, doing the will of Satan, that they never gave serious thought to their eternal lives. Let me say right here that we will all have an eternal existence?the difference being those who have obeyed God will have a blessed eternal life in heaven ?.while those who did not obey God will have an eternal death in the torments of hell (Romans 2:1-16).

Would you like to be able to sing that song at the beginning of this lesson? Wouldn’t you like to be able to say without reservation that you know for certain that when Christ comes back for His Bride that you will be in that number. Are you ready to go right now? This may be your last warning before it is eternally too late. God has not promised anyone that they would live until they were redeemed; and if you are not redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ then you are not redeemed. It is important that God has put the onus on us, on each individual, to ?Ask, seek, and knock,’ to be redeemed (Matthew 7:7-11).

That is a sign that your have reached the end of ?self ‘ and you are striving to reach God. That is one of the first things that God requires in salvation. That does no mean that if you ask a couple of time, and seek for a time, or knock politely that you are saved, we are not saved by any formula, salvation requires the act of God to call, justify, and finally to glorify, those who are saved (Romans 8:30). We are commanded to become interested in our eternal lives and when we do that we will begin to look in the only place that we find Salvation, the Savior and our God is in His Word the Bible. Open it and read, study, meditate and grieve over it until God is satisfied that you are really interested in being a Child of His and then continue to strive to know all that you can know about God and His plan for your life. Salvation is not something that we can do part-time, or peace-meal, either we are interested in Him or it’s a pretty good indication that He is not near us. Sin has separated us from God and you cannot be saved and continue in a life of sin.

We did not get very far in this installment but we will pick up in the series and will try to the best of our ability to show you that the heaven we know today (That place where the disembodied souls of the saved are with God) is not the heaven we will know in the end. The ingredient that is absolutely demanded in Heaven is God. Heaven is where God is and we have much to learn about it.

Until next time,

may God bless and keep you
