Bible Lesson 201

Coming to know God in Spirit and Truth. Part II
(John 4:23-24)

“But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” “We know too much. We have read and heard everything. The happiest person is a young Christian before he has met too many Bible scholars! We need more than anything else some plain and simple Christians who will let God be true and every man a liar.

Vance Havner.

Am I the only one who has noticed that the people who call themselves Christians, whether Baptist, Presbyterians, Methodist, Pentecostal, and on and on, seem to be operating in and from a place other than the Bible’ I don’t think that I am wrong because I always check things by my Bible. I constantly see activity, and hear chatter, and much of what I hear from Churches, and church-members doesn’t seem to be listed in my Bible. Now, I have several different translation of our Bible, and they all are in agreement with everything except, what I am seeing and hearing from those that are supposed to be God’s children.
Perhaps some of you have noticed how hard it is to get some of those in our churches, to join a conversation about the God-Man, Jesus Christ. If we were saved by His shed-blood, and delivered by His Cross, you would think that He would be on the lips of everyone who claims to be saved.

That does not often happen, and so there is something up-stream that is wrong and we shall attempt to deal with that in this series of Bible Studies that will be forth coming. It seem that we have become cookie cutter little paper cut-outs, that do not know what these groups that call themselves churches, are really doing.

You know what I mean, we have Baptist, Southern Baptist, Missionary Baptist, Primitive Baptist, Grace Baptist, and on and on, with the same kind of thing for the Methodist, Presbyterian, Pentecostal, and so on. That should seem strange to us because we are saved to be unified (In Agreement, in Christ), but we cannot get along with each other.

Most of us read and say that we believe the same Bible, and yet we steadfastly insist on being separate. Does that make any sense to anybody who reads this lesson’ I hope that it doesn’t because people who say that they serve the same God, and depend upon His Grace and Mercy for eternal life. All of us calling ourselves Christians, should be closer to each other than we are.

As I stated at the beginning of this lesson, we will have to institute a series of Bible Lessons, in order to find our place (in God’s estimation). Personally I do not believe that we have been careful enough, hungry enough, humble enough, or even thoughtful enough, to find the door that is opened by the free gift of Faith that always comes in real Salvation and deliverance from sin. It almost appears that we have been willing to quit God’s Grace, in favor of some emotional feelings that we have about making ourselves acceptable to God. We could work day and night for ever, and never be able to make ourselves acceptable to God, until we have been favored by His Grace and put to death, and resurrected with His Only Begotten son, Jesus Christ, we remain lost.(See Romans 6:1-9).
We as 21st Century Cattle, and I use the word cattle because most of us are easily led by slick and candied lies from the devil’s workers, have been led to our own destruction without as much as a whimper from any of us. We love to be patted on the head by some wolf in sheep’s clothing that makes merchandise out of us. All he has to do is to paint love over every command of God and tell us we are all alright, and just need to read his latest book which has just come off the press. We refuse to really study God’s Word and most do not know anything at all about our Great Creator God.

I think that many believe that if they remain willfully ignorant of the Word and Will of Almighty God, that they won’t be judged and sent to hell. If you are simple enough to believe that perhaps you need to be measured up for some asbestos underwear. God has done everything for us except unscrew our ears and pour his will for us into our heads.

We have His inerrant Word, the, Bible, but we have not been encouraged to study it and believe as God’s Truth. Attempting to preach the truths of God and have them received by the hearts of sinners is about like, sorting wildcats. People have heard in many cases so much ‘cheap grace’ that they have all of the cute little answers to what God demands from those who would be His Children. We seem to think that we can rob God of not only His Tithes and Offerings, but we have robbed Him of His Sovereignty. People by the thousands, no millions, today feel no compunction about shredding the Word of God, questioning it, changing it and dismissing it, in favor of a belief that has no God, that requires nothing, offers nothing and in the judgment will be worth exactly that”NOTHING!

We are besieged by little nervous nannies, who want to lead us, but who do not know the direction, the destination, nor the Operating Procedures; because they do not know, or will not preach the truths of the Bible. Can any of us really make a case for God’s adopting as children, those who do not believe in His Sovereignty, His absolute power, His Omniscience, and His eternal self-existence’ There is a great number of church-members who attend the 20 -30 minute lectures every Sunday, who do not really believe that “He is and that He is the rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6). Large numbers attend church and parrot the church talk, but they do so, in order to fill that block, that they think will gain them entry into heaven.

There are many who do know the truth and hate the truth of the Gospel when they hear it. You may not think that to be true, but open your Bible and begin to preach what God has said, and preach it like it is the Truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I have preached from the Word of God, after asking the congregation to open their own copies of God’s Word and follow as I preach, and have preached John 14:21-24, without apology and have offended many people. On one occasion, a lady who was near 90 years old and who had a son who was a preacher, came by after the sermon and was crying, and when I asked her what was the matter, she said, “you hurt my feelings.” I asked her how I hurt her feelings and she said ”I have never heard that preached’! I asked her if she had opened her Bible and followed me and she said that she had, but restated the fact that I had hurt her feelings. I said “dear lady, you will get over hurt feelings, but you will never get over going to hell.”

That is the manifestation of one of the problems that we have today. Preachers are preaching to itching ears and they have created a new Gospel, the Gospel of lifted scriptures, of half-truths and lies. The great sin of our generation is the sin of Tolerance. We all too often preach to appear tolerant, or to create unity, or to keep our jobs. Shame of us; because God is not Tolerant, He is intolerant of sin, and the reason that God sent His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ to die on the cross was to change us from being self-serving sinners who deny the truth and love our precious sin. Certainly we can find ourselves in Isaiah 59:1-21, where God is dealing with Israel about sin and how it has separated them from Him, and God tells them that they have deserted Him and the Truth and His Righteousness, and notice in verse 15 that everyone who departs from sin makes himself a prey. In other words, back then as is the case in our day, the devil’s people had out-numbered those who were godly, and they felt like little baby birds feel when a big cat finds their nest. Think about this, if you will, we have to admit that Truth has fallen in the streets of America. We have begun to desire the devil’s lie more than we do God’s truth.

Some will ask, as did Pontius Pilate, “What is Truth” Pilate who had the Truth standing before him did not recognize it. We stand today in that same manner, with Bibles all around us and having heard the Truth in some form; but have denying it in favor of something lighter, more suited to our culture, with more of self and less of duty to God. We have chosen to call evil good and good evil, we prefer darkness to the Light, and bitter for the sweet. (Isaiah 5:20). We have preferred ‘face-book’ over the good book, the Bible. We act like uncivilized people who think that it is cute, or brave, to rant and rave and spew garbage, while all the time thinking we are hiding our identity from other people. There are no anonymous, postings on social media. Those who know the ropes will uncover your snarky posts and use them against you, and if that don’t happen, God will remind you of them at the judgment.

It is not pleasant, to have to call out our failings and believe me there are many that have to call out. Look at what we have done; and we have not only hurt ourselves we have impacted and caused many to turn away from God and follow Satan into that place called hell. The news media have said that we no longer support Biblical marriage, and now we have the sin that caused God to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, homosexuality, honored just like Biblical marriage. You may say, well, brobob, I don’t support it: and I ask you, did you stand against it, by teaching the Bible’s position on it’ (Romans 1:18-32).

We all have a part in teaching others the truth and if you haven’t been doing that, you are part of the problem and not part of the solution. I will state publically, that the reason that the homosexual sin has had such an easy time is, that preachers and Churches had stopped preaching against it. In fact every great sin that has threatened human beings has resulted because the organized church has not continually preached against it. Homosexuality like every other sin that exists and I will mention a few that we have allowed to stain our society, sins like abortion, divorce, pre-marital sex, debauchery, gluttony, idol worship, and on and on are sins that may be mentioned from pulpits, but they are never washed, starched, and ironed; instead they are mentioned in passing. Preaching has become a thing of the pass. People that sit in the pews do not like real preaching because real preaching must be taken straight from the pages of the Word of God, the Bible. They must be preached in such a way that those who hear it are called to examine themselves and it must never be sweetened, shortened or made something to laugh about.

Preaching must be done in such a way that it is heard, even by those who will reject it. Preaching must be done in such a way that the personality of the one preaching is not noticed. It must put the sinner in the stocks before a Sovereign God, who hates sin and will not tolerate it in His people. If we look back to the Cross and shortly thereafter we find preaching defined in the Second Letter to Timothy, and God speaks to us through the Apostle Paul and says “I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach The Word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth and be turned aside to fables.” Hear me well good people, that time has come and they for the most part will not hear or endure sound doctrine. They (congregations) have heaped to themselves teachers that will tickle their ears, and they refuse to accept the truths of God. The devil has reason to celebrate now that so many have been captivated by the spirit of the day, which is to trust self and just enjoy life. Sadly, they will soon find out that life on this earth is short: and like grass, it withers, and its flower falls away; but the Word of the Lord endures forever.” (1st Peter 1:24).

If we can just capture the attention of one person with this series we can make a difference, not that we can do anything except obey the Lord’s Command to Go and teach others. (Matthew 28:19-20). Every time the Word of God is spoken, to teach or preach or evangelize, one of two things always happens, the people that hear it will either be converted or condemned. I pray that you will check every scripture that is found in these lessons. Then read and consider not so much, what I have said, but what God has said. Things that I hope you will take from this Lesson. A). The Word of God (Bible) is the place where we find the answers to all of life’s problems. B).We are not saved by anything we could or would ever do! We are saved by God’s Grace through Faith that God gives to those who seek Him, as a free gift. C).There are no short cuts, no hospital classes, and no formulas. We are saved whenever God calls us and turns us to the Cross of His Only Begotten Son. D).None, not one of us are innocent, we all are born guilty of sin and under God’s wrath (Ephesians 2:1-3). E). In True Salvation, God puts us to death with Christ on the Cross, resurrects us with Christ, to walk in newness of life. (Ephesians 2:10; Romans 6:1-14). F).Those who are born again, obedient and faithful to Christ are Saints, not sinners.

I will throw this in for your consideration: Salvation is not, a one-time forever event, which will release you back to practice sin; but ensure that you inherit heaven. Christians, once saved, are In Christ, and He is in them, and Christ lives His sinless life through them. (Galatians 2:20).

Until next time,

may God bless and keep you
