Bible Lesson 202

Focused Faith

“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2.

“When Cortez and his followers landed in the New World, they burned their ships and so eliminated all means of return to the homeland. Something like this is what a Christian must do when he sets out to follow the Lord. He must forget the things that are behind. He must let the dead bury their dead. He must put his hand to the plow and not look back. He must set his face like a flint. He must burn his bridges and his boats.

This month we want to find out about the cost of true Salvation and following Jesus in the only way that glorifies God. Those who are truly saved have, whether they know it or not, taken on a duty to God to follow His One and Only Begotten Son, the God-man who took their place on the cross and suffered the shame and pain that should have been theirs, and the reason that Jesus Christ did that was to “redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.” (Titus 2:14).

In the down and dirty, quick and easy, name it and claim it, society, that we live in, we seem to think that is all that it takes to be saved is for us to dress up some Sunday and attend a church, and join it and that all that is required for us to be ushered into heaven the moment we die. Stop and think about that for a second, ask yourself if that doesn’t reek of the cheapening of what it took for God to redeem any person.

The God-man Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, was sacrificed in the place of those who would obey Him (Hebrews 5:8-9). God gave of Himself to save a people that would obey His Son and be saved, and if you have no record of following Jesus Christ, and all that He commands in the Bible, then you don’t qualify for heaven.

I know that the church-members in our midst don’t like the idea that someone would dare to say that kind of thing, but dear brothers and sisters, it is time we stop playing church and began to be the Church in our Homes, our Schools, our work place and our play place. It is time for churches to hold remediable Bible Study and teach members that they must understand the Bible in its context, or they will probably miss heaven.

I am not the judge and if I were, I would probably let some of the wrong people into heaven, but I am telling you what the Almighty Judge who will judge the quick and the dead on the last day, had Godly men write down for us, and that is the Bible.

We have become satisfied with being Biblical illiterate, and we are never challenged by our leaders about our sorry state of the Knowledge of God. It does not surprise me that people have adopted a belief that is not a belief but rather a doubtful desire to know who God is and to have their sins forgiven; however they refuse to strive (work), and seek to know what their problem is with sin, and have a Just standing before their creator. It does not appear that anyone is a Christian anymore, instead we all like to be identified as church members; and that my friend is a fatal flaw. If you attend a church that has a faithful God called man in the pulpit, that preaches “Thus saith the Lord”, then that is the place you should be to learn about Christ and the Cross; but that is a position that calls for lots of work and finally once you know what the Gospel is all about and you have the power of the Holy Spirit in you, you need to be out witnessing and lifting up the person and work of Christ.

Every one of us must cleanse ourselves of what most refer to as the ‘Cheap Grace Gospel’. That is a gospel that never confronts sin in sinners, never probes deeper than, do you love Christ, and never attempts to cause any pain in repentance. That is a false gospel and it cost nothing and will be worth nothing in the Judgment. Salvation does not come on a bargain basement sale. Salvation cost God the Father His Only Begotten Son, God in the flesh. Think about it, would you be willing to give up your son for anyone, especially if they were your enemies’.

People have been sold a bill of goods in this society that we live in, and that says that we are really smart people, people that are capable and have accomplished many things. Oh, yes we have done some things that God has allowed, mainly things that we play with like, smart phones, computers, television, and all sorts of thing that take our minds off of God and puffs us up and makes us feel like we are the best that ever were; but the things that we have sought to entertain us will not stand the test of time. There is not one thing that can be said to be eternal, with the exception of God. He is eternal, all else is temporary. God did not have a beginning, He always existed, but we and all the trinkets that we think so highly of will not stand the test of time, they will all disappear, as will our self-serving ideas about eternal security. We like to think that simply because some group in a church setting accepted you into their fellowship, that you have a place reserved for you in glory. Let me encourage you to really read and study your Bible and see if you can find that anywhere in the hallowed pages of God’s inspired Word the Bible.

It is almost unbelievable that we have come so far from the truth that we would believe that we are all just sinners, doing our best at times, but always failing and falling into sin. Some who hold themselves out to be called of God to preach His Word and Will, even say, that they are the worst sinners in the church. I don’t know about you but I don’t want the food prepared by the worst cook in town, or want the worst mechanic in town to work on my car, or the worst doctor in town to operate on me or the worst dentist in town to drill one of my teeth. To say that the worst sinner in any church is the biggest sinner, does not make sense to me. Perhaps that is the reason that the devils’ people have been able to take God out of the school system, and disallow prayer at any events, or to rule over the church and favor false religions to be taught to our children. That is definitely the reason that the church has no authority in its community anymore. That is probably the reason that churches has begun to ‘save’ people on the basis of them simply wanting to be associated with the church. Listen people, the church that Jesus Christ began to build prior to going to the cross is a church that equips Saints, those who are born again and made new creatures who obey all that Christ has commanded, and then sends them out to minister to others. Most church today stand occasionally and sing ‘Standing on the promises’ but they never do more than ‘sit on the premises’.

Our Scripture for this month’s Bible Lesson reminds us that Jesus Christ, God with us, commented on the coming of a laxity in saving faith, and He commented, ‘when the Son of Man comes will he really find faith on the earth.’ (Luke 18b). That seems to be the way that people decide to believe because in Noah’s time, there were millions of people on the earth but not but eight were saved from the universal flood. Those eight were the eight that had enough faith to climb on board the Arc that Noah had built. They were Noah and his wife and their three sons and their wives.

I’ll bet that there were thousands that could have been saved if only their faith had been such that they believed there was going to be a flood. What were those people doing when Moses was building the Ark, pretty much the same thing that we are doing In our day, they were marrying, and giving in marriage, eating and drinking, just doing their thing, and unmindful of what is going on around them. That is pretty much what we are doing today, isn’t it.

Apparently we have forgotten that there is a God and His Name is Jehovah, who in the beginning spoke all that we know into existence. He has left us a perfect plan for life, called the Bible, but most never read it to apply it to their lives. Most simply skim over it to be able to get through church activities. But they never take it to heart. You see, the Bible is the Word of God it is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:12). Have you ever read the Bible and had the impression that is was really reading and judging you rather than you judging it’ Too many in our day think that if they open the Bible or simply allow it to drop open to some page and they read something on a page and then go on to something interesting.

If you would simply begin to study the Bible, you would find it is the most interesting book you will ever read. We have allowed the trinkets of the devil and his world to draw us away from our Creator, Sustainer, and Savior God, and we have lost our moral center and our God given desire to know Him. Instead we want to play around with those who have gone beyond faith, repentance, obedience, and living that Christ life that comes with the New Birth. Most of the people we deal with in Churches today are fakers. Their lives are a fake, their love is a fake, and their knowledge of the Truth is fake, and their faith is fake. By that I mean that all that they say or do, and the way they act around true Christians is play-acting. Now we may fool some of the people some of the time, or all of the people sometime; but we can never fool God. He know you from the depth of your soul, and He knows those who belong to Him. The people who we are discussing here are those who love to talk about faith, and sing about faith and discuss with others about faith, but they have no faith at all; because Faith is a gift from God, and we obtain it as a gift from God only when God knows us and sheds His Grace on us in regeneration and salvation.

Where is your faith focused’ Can your faith believer that everything that God inspired in His Word the Bible is so, even when in your life it does not appear so, but you know it is so because God said it was so. It takes saving faith to see things that others cannot see and believe things that are hard to understand, simply because God said that it was so. Do you believe that when Jesus Christ went to the Cross and was nailed there, that you were there IN Christ’ You were, that is if you are truly saved! Do you believe that you and everything that was in you that was part of Adam died on that cross and was buried and arose with Jesus as a new creature IN CHRIST, to walk in newness of life’ Romans 6:1-14. Or are you like those who have attempted to manipulate God and His Word to allow you to believe that you are saved and yet free to continue in sin’

They buy into the myth that inside every Christian there is a black dog and a white dog, and sometimes you live like the white dog but sometimes you live like the black dog. There are no dogs in the Children of Christ, there is only Christ, and He leads us into all righteousness’never sin. We have confused several generations of people with our preaching only smooth things that make sinners feels good about their sin, because we have allowed them to have fellowship in our midst. We have made the Bible say that God and Christ love everyone, but Christ says different (John 14:15, 21-24). We promise them that Christ died for everyone, but The Bible says that Christ died for those who will obey Him. We even invite people to accept Christ, as we preach little lies that will make Him acceptable to sinners. That is backwards because the Word of God was given to make sinners acceptable to God, and we need to be about telling the truth.

Until next time,

may God bless and keep you
