Bible Lesson 212

Walking the Walk (Romans 6:1-4)

“What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly, not! How shall we who have died to sin live any longer in it? Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus, were baptized into His death? Therefore, we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”

“Who seeks for Heaven alone to save his soul, May keep the path, but will not reach the goal; While he who walks in love may wander far, Yet God will bring him where the blessed are.” Henry Van Dyke.

This month we will open our copies of God’s Word and seek to understand how we are to walk when we are born again new creatures in Christ. Let us stretch our minds to gain that knowledge that comes to those who have been called by God to be Saints. I have been pretty much all over the world in my years, but it never fails that there are always two kinds of people wherever we go.

There are those who are saved and those who are lost and there is no one in between. There are those who know Christ and Walk the way that those who know Christ in Salvation always walk. Then there are those who talk a good game but they do not walk in such a way; as to demonstrate that they have been saved, forgiven, created in Christ, and these do not walk the way the Saints walk.

Why would anyone who is not following Christ, in Christ’s power, be so bold as to walk one way and talk another’ I know why that is and it is because the Church, denominations and non-denominations, preachers and teachers and everybody it seems, have not taught the truth; and we have thought that it really does not matter whether the flock they lead ever reads their Bibles. In fact, instead of exhorting their flock to holiness they excuse their sin by preaching that anybody that hates sin as much as God says His sheep are supposed to, is wrong.

I am not going to spend a lot of time looking for some preacher that is not preaching holiness, but they do come in bunches like bananas. So, if you want to defend your preacher, spend the next few weeks reading your Bible and meditating over what God has said to us.

The Bible is to be the Christians rule and guide and so we must learn for ourselves what God has said to those who live under His rule for us. First let me ask you if you really know how sinners are saved.

It should interest all of us because we are all born dead in trespass and sin, and under the wrath of God. You will find that written plainly in (Titus chapter 2: 11-14; Titus 3:1-8; Ephesians 2:1-4). God has a walk planed for those who truly seek Him, and find Him. We are commanded to walk worthy of our calling; and that calling is the call of God in salvation.

How can a person walk in God’s way, unless they know how God has said we should walk’ In the Apostle Paul’s letter to the church in Colossi: Paul under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, says “For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you and ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. How then do we gain the knowledge of God’s will in order that we may walk the way we must walk’ (Colossians 1:3-11; Romans 10:17; 1st Thessalonians 4:1-8.).

About the only place people today walk, is to walk a few minutes every now and again, to keep our physical bodies in shape. Most have lost the art of honoring our Creator God by learning how He wants us to walk and live every day of the week. Normally when the Bible speaks about walking it refers to our life and how we live it on a daily basis, so when we mention walking like Christ walks, we want you to understand that it is the way that we are to live. Ask yourself; how do you walk every day’ Do you set your walk in the order that the Word of God commands us to walk, or do you just get up and stagger through another day’

Most of us do not even consider God as we set up our schedules for each day, we rise from our bed and wash the sleep out of our eyes, and start another day in violation of God’s commandments. So now we are learning how God commands his people to walk and that is that we always walk the way that Christ walked while here on the earth. How in the world could anyone ever walk like Christ’ The Bible tells us how we do that, but the power to walk as Jesus walked, involves our total submission and commitment to Christ. That always happens whenever a person is truly born again. In Galatians 2:20; Paul the Writer of Galatians tells us that “He has been crucified with Christ; it is no longer he who lives, but Christ lives in Him, and the life that Paul now lives in his flesh, he lives by faith in the Son of God, who loved him and gave himself for him.” That means that now, we should understand what Jesus Christ told Nicodemus back there in John 3:3,5; when Christ told Nicodemus that He would have to be born again (born from above).

In Ephesians chapter two we find how everyone of us is born dead in trespass and sin, under the wrath of God. We inherited the sin nature of our forefather Adam, and we love sin and all of us were headed for the same place in hell for eternity, had our Creator God not extended His Amazing Grace to us by sending His Only Begotten Son, The Godman, Jesus Christ to take our place on the cross and die to redeem us from sin. Jesus volunteered to leave the splendors and pleasure of Heaven to come to earth to take the place of sinners on the cross. Christ had no sin, He died for those who knew that they were sinners, and who would obey Him. How about you’ Can you fall at the Saviors feet and own his cross as your due, and promise to obey all that the Bible tells you to do’ (Hebrews 5:8-9). Now a lot of preachers and teachers and laymen want to argue with the fact that God saved only those who obey the Commands of Christ; but they cannot find any scripture to set aside the fact that God does not save some of His Creatures because He who created them knows that they would love to inherit heaven, but they will not obey.

We have been knocked off the path that Jesus commands us to walk by preachers and teachers who have never really studied the Bible, but who have taken all the classes about how to draw crowds to their services. These are the ones who have manufactured smiles and dark wavy hair and never preach in such a way as to offend the sensibilities of sinners; who sit for their false version of the Bible. They always assure their congregations that God loves them just the way they are; however, that is clearly not true and we can find it in the Gospel of John chapter 14, and verses 15, 21-24.

Let me tell you what those verses say’.and I will remind you that theses scriptures are in red letters indicating that they were spoken by Jesus Christ. In verse 15 of chapter 14 of John, Jesus says “if you love Me, you will obey Me.” Then in verses 21 through 24, Jesus goes on to say “He that hath My commandments, and keeps them, he it is that loves me, and he that loves me shall be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him. Then in verses 23 and 24 of Chapter 14 of John, Jesus says; “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make our home with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Fathers who sent Me.” I don’t know how we could make it any clearer, that true Salvation, results only where that radical change, initiated by God, that occurs when God takes a repentant sinner and turns them into a Saint.

We have heard so much ‘cheap grace’ preaching today that almost everyone is ready to fight, if you tell them that they should not be sinners but rather Saints. But the Word of God, the Inspired, inerrant, infallible, Word of God, the Bible makes it clear that if we are going to please God, we must be what God says that we are; and that is Saints. We are called to be Saints (Romans 1:7). The Apostle Paul begins most of his letters and epistles with the notification that He is writing to those who are saints. In Romans 1:7, Paul said “To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints.” In 1st Corinthians 1:2 He wrote, “To the Church of God which is at Corinth, to those who are sanctified In Christ, called to be Saints, with all who in every place call on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours”.

In 2nd Corinthians 1:1, Paul wrote, “To the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints who are in all Achaia”. To the church of Ephesus in verse 1, Paul wrote “To the saints who are in Ephesus and faithful in Christ Jesus:” To the church at Philippi, Paul wrote, in Chapter 1: verse 1, “To all the Saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, with the bishops and deacons.” To the church of the Colossians, Paul wrote in chapter one and verse 2, “to the saints and faithful brethren in Christ who are in Colosse;” It is evident that preachers in our day have a problem with those who are saved, being called Saints’..and so we gave them a new name; a name that God hates; we must not call those who are saved, Sinners!

I don’t want to over load you with too much to think about, but this is where we separate the boys from the men, so in closing let me challenge you to read and study the Bible’..but only after you have had a time to think about and accept, that God is God; and you are not, and God will always be God and you will never be God; however you can, if you repent and turn away from sin and walk like a Saint; in the power of the Jesus Christ, live eternally in heaven with God and Christ. Begin to read Romans and John, and Ephesians”they will help you understand how true Christians have been called out of the world into an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ, who now is the power in you to enable you to live like a Saint.

Until next time,

may God bless and keep you
