Bible Lesson 225

The Christ of The Cross

“For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.”
1st Corinthians 2:2

“Then said Jesus unto His disciples, “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me.”
Matthew 16:24.

As I write this I am astonished to realize how short this introduction we need, for the most important information that any man, woman, or child can ever hear. The Cross of Christ and the Christ of the cross are the crux of life and death. There at the cross we find two roads, two directions, and two destinations, and two existences. Whether we ever know or consider it ‘. there it stands.

What we do as we live here on the earth, because of that Cross and that Christ, will determine which road we take (up or down), which direction we will travel (the lust of the flesh or the love of Christ who bore our sins on the cross unto death) and the destination we will receive, (Heaven or Hell).

It is my prayer that you consider your decision about this important cross and this Christ, because which road we take and which direction we go will lead to our final existence; eternal life in heaven and all of its wonderful blessings, or eternal death in hell where we will be eternally tormented while dying over and over.

What a decision has to be made by, everyone who lives here on the ball that we refer to as earth. Many will simply ignore the fact that they have a need to prepare for eternity as they live this short time here on the earth. Some will decide, by not making a decision, which only means that they will decide that they do not need to do anything that might cause them to think about their eternity.

They apparently think that they will be able to tell God that they were too busy making a living and living in sin, to think about it.

Others will have to admit that they were too busy doing what everyone else was doing to have time to read His letters (The Bible). And others think that they were good enough without having to know and obey what God instructed them to do.

They do not know that when they stand before the Creator God, that they will not be able to make any excuses. They will, instead, simply hear from God what they had done and receive that awesome indictment from God that says. “depart from me you worker of evil; I never knew you!”

Too many of us fix our eyes on the cross and forget that one who was in human form; but who was, God In the flesh, went there and took the place of those who would receive Him and obey Him. He did that because we were all born to the flesh with a nature that was dead to God and the things of God. We were all born dead in trespass and sin, under the wrath of God. We are told in Ephesians 2:1-3, “And you(speaking to those who had been saved by Grace through Faith in Jesus Christ), He made alive, who were dead in trespass and sin, in which you once walked according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.

You should take away from that scripture that we are all born unfit for heaven and must have a work of God in us and on us, to have any standing before God. If you have never seen yourself in the light of God’s Judgment, and saw a creature that deserved death and hell, this should be a wakeup call for you. God had before the foundation of the world, set in motion the only way for any person to be saved: and that was what we are looking into this month, The Way, The Truth, and the Life. How can we be saved’ There is a way and it is that Christ took the cross in your place and mine, and was made sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

He took your place on the cross that you and I deserved to be nailed to, and He suffered the punishment that you and I deserved to suffer and He died so that we could live eternally. (See 2nd Corinthians 5:21; Ephesians 2:4-10). Nothing else would have sufficed for our salvation. We have over the centuries since the cross of Christ attempted to save ourselves by turning over a new leaf, by being better people, by being identified as a Christian, and by joining some church group. None of that or all of it put together will save your soul. The stain that sin leaves on a person’s soul is one which required the blood of Jesus Christ to cleanse it. (See Romans 5:6-11; Acts 4:12).

Perhaps you are like many who boast that they went to church for 9 months before they were born, which means that while their mother was pregnant with them, she attended some church. That has nothing to do with being saved. You can join every church in your country and when you die God will send you to hell; because joining some church or churches simply makes you a church member, God must have predestined you for salvation, then He will in time call you, justify you and glorify you. Only those who are yoked with Christ are Christians. (See Romans 8:29-30; Mathew 11:28-30).

Many believe that they made a decision to be saved, but there is no such thing as regeneration. God makes the decision for those who then will become complicit with God in doing what God requires in regeneration (salvation). We have been deluded into believing that God will go beyond the Cross of Christ to save a sinner; however, that is a pipe dream.

God is Sovereign in everything, especially in salvation. No man, woman, or child will ever gain the portals of heaven unless God nudges or drags them to the Christ of the Cross, which is where we all must not only come but deal with what it required for us to be saved. Unfortunately, many have decided that they can be saved and yet just go on with their lives as they had before and that will suffice for salvation. That is not a smart thought. We are told by the inerrant Scripture that Jesus Christ saves sinners.

And that is correct, sinners are save and once saved they are Saints. Saints scares the pants off of most church members; but we are either Saints or Sinners, and sinners go to hell while Saints inherit heaven. Sadly, there are many pastors out there today that really believe that salvation is a common commodity, and that if their people just do the best they can, that God will accept that. I tell you on the authority of God’s infallible Word that is not true. It is impossible for mankind to live above sin, that is the reason that when God saves us He puts the old creature to death with Christ and then buries him with Christ and then raises him up with Christ unto a newness of life. The truly saved person is “In Christ” and Christ is now living through him. We are fit for heaven only In Christ! (See Romans 6:1-14; Galatians 2:20).

I have relayed much of the Truth of God about Salvation so I will close by saying, Make sure of your salvation. Stop trying to get to heaven on the credit.

Until next time,

may God bless and keep you
