Bible Lesson 237

“Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith”

Hebrews 12:2

“Examine yourself as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? Unless indeed you are disqualified”.
2nd Corinthians 13:5.

This month we are looking to Jesus by taking the first step that must be taken in looking unto Jesus. We will examine ourselves to make sure that we know what we know.

There is a beginning point that is sure because the Bible makes it plain, and that is that from our births, the moment we left the birth canal, we are born lost and undone, blind and unheeding, under the wrath of our Creator God. (Ephesians 2:1-3).

Most people in our day have never dealt with this fact; because we by nature, always judge ourselves by how others behave and that makes it easy for us to say things like, ‘your okay and I’m ok, I am as good of a man or woman as the next person, so I’m good. That is the way we think and act, but we must understand that we are not the deciding authority.

We are creatures who are responsible to the Creator of all things, and He says that we are born with a nature that is against God and the things of God. We have nothing in us at birth that has any way, or desire to commune with God. We have a father that is the devil, Satan himself and we always follow the way that pleases Satan. (John 8:42-44).

So, if you who think that you are not a sinner on their way to hell for eternity, stop and consider yourself and your life in light of the Inerrant Word of God, the Bible. You say that you are not a sinner; however, God says that you are. (Romans 3:23).

You and I, the President, the Congress, and Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, every person born on the earth, with the exception of Jesus Christ was born an enemy of God and were by nature, candidates for hell.

Now that that is settled, allow me to inform you that God has made The Way that we can be saved from hell and sin, and that way is Jesus Christ, His Person, and work on Calvary. (John 14:6). We must attempt to understand Jesus Christ, so stick with me for a little while and we will attempt to understand this person that we are and why we are this way.

First, we must understand that we, thousands of years ago, were in the loins of the First man that God created, whose name was Adam. Adam was created in innocence and walked and talked with God in the Garden that God prepared for Adam and the woman that was taken from Adam’s rib. God had given Adam only one thing that he was not supposed to do and that he was, not to eat of the Tree of the knowledge of good and evil; for in the day that he ate of the fruit of that tree, he would die.

There was every tree in the garden that is on the earth today, so we know that God did not put Adam in a hard spot by denying him the fruit of that tree, in fact, God did not deny Him even the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; what God did was, He placed a consequence on his eating of it. He would die spiritually, be separated from God. His nature was one of disobedience and it passed from Adam down to us, and that includes us all.

Regardless of what we would like to think or profess, we are out of fellowship with our God, and unless and until God moves to call us out of sin and to Himself, we are hell bound when we die. The first thing that we have to do as creatures of God is to agree with Him about our sin. As we saw before, God has made The Way…, not a way, but, The Way for us to be justified before God, and that is that we see ourselves as a lost sinner, turn to God from Sin, trusting in the Work of Jesus on the Cross as sufficient for our cleansing, and then enter that strait gate, which is Jesus Christ, and then walk that narrow way until God calls us to our inheritance in heaven.(Matthew 1:21; Matthew 7:13-14). Remember in true Salvation, the old creature of flesh is put to death, and a new creature is raised up to walk in newness of life. That new Creature is indwelled by the Holy Spirit and is ‘In Christ” and Christ is in them. (Galatians 2:20).

So many in our society have taken it upon themselves to rule their own lives, in fact, according to some of them, they sit on the throne of their own lives even when calling themselves church members. What they mean, is that unless God allows them to decide when to be saved and how to be saved, they will take their ball and go home.

The person that has been called by God to Salvation is a person who has emptied himself of, self. We die to self when we see our self, as we really exist. We come to God with nothing in our hand, clinging to His Cross and begging for His mercy.

Have you ever done exactly that kind of coming to Christ’ Have you ever seen Him as your only hope and help’ Did you see yourself as you really were, and not the hotshot that you have always thought you were’ Did you see God High and lifted up, and yourself as a worm’

That’s how all sinners appear to the Creator God. If you ever think that you are indispensable to your family, church, group or village, take a walk through the nearest cemetery. Remember, that in Noah’s time God looked down at His Creation and saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. God destroyed all living things with the exception of eight people (Noah and his wife, and their three sons and their wives.)

God also saved the seed for the animal kingdom in the Ark that God instructed Noah to build. (Genesis 6:5-Genesis 7:24). Think seriously on these things and remember you depend upon God for everything, He commands you to live the way He has set down in the Bible.

Until next time,

may God bless and keep you
