Bible Lesson 238

Looking unto Jesus: 2nd in series – Hebrews 12:2

This month we will be looking into our Bibles to understand why we must ‘Look unto Jesus’ for our Redemption, Justification, Righteousness and Salvation, including our sanctification.

We can search the world over and read all the books in the Library to find a reason why we have to look unto Jesus for all of Salvation, but we will not understand it until we realize that we are born into this world unfit for heaven (Ephesians 2:1-3), plus there is no other name under heaven whereby we must be saved. (Acts 4:12).

That means that we must look unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. Jesus Christ the Only Begotten Son of God, the God Man, God in the flesh, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Him and Him crucified is our only hope of eternal bliss instead of eternal condemnation.

We were unfit for anything except worldly life and hell when we die, but God took it in hand to make the only way that any person could be saved, and then God in the flesh did all the heavy lifting to provide, not a way, but The only way to be saved!

We have, over the millennia attempted to change, adjust, modify, deny, and by some means change what God set in place before the foundations of the world; however, God always says what He means, and means what He says!

We can put nothing to that, nor can we take anything away from that! A problem for all of mankind existed, and God was the only solution. His solution came in the form of God taking on human flesh and then becoming the solution, as the Lamb that was slain, on the cross.

Everything that God does is perfect, so man need not, in fact cannot, contribute anything in his own salvation. Salvation belongs to God and unless and until God decides that any person be saved, there is no salvation. That is not what congregations all over the world are being told from the pulpits of our churches.

Now, before we go any further let me make it clear that when I say the word Church, I am not speaking of each and every church. I am telling you, that you personally need to be aware of what the Bible has to say, and to be careful that the truth is being taught wherever you attend church. I love the church, but I do not like what it has become in many cases. The Church’s job is to teach the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. It would be interesting if you could test every member of every church to determine the level of knowledge and understanding of every member.

I know that many would say to that, that it is demanding too much, and the church is not to test people. But, hear me now, there is a final exam coming when each of us breath our last breath, and those who do not know the truth when they die will spend eternity condemned to the fires of hell. That is the reason that we say as God says to us in His Word the Bible, “And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment”. At the moment of death, the line is drawn, and there will be no second chances, no do-overs, so if you miss heaven by an inch, you miss it by a mile.

My question to each one who reads this Lesson is simply “Are You looking unto Jesus for your eternal destiny'” Do you know what that means’ How do you look unto Jesus for your salvation’ What we have to do is first to understand that there is nothing mechanical about looking unto our Jesus. So, we will first have to read the Word of God to gain that faith that will understand what Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God Almighty, did so that any man, woman or child could be saved, to stand righteous before Him in the Judgment.

How do we get that Faith that can know Jesus Christ to the point that we can focus our faith upon His Person and work on the Cross’ We are told in Ephesians 2:8-9 that we are saved by God’s Grace, through faith, and faith is not of us, but is a gift of God. How can we gain faith’ By reading and studying the Word of God, the Bible. Romans 10:17 tells us that “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.” Faith is how we look unto Jesus, who is the author and finisher of our faith. Notice we are not to look unto our faith, or unto our church, or to our pastor or friend, instead we are to look at the One who begins it and who ends it.

If we are Biblically literate, if we have really read and reread, and cross referenced, and looked at the bible in its context, then and only then are we prepared to Look unto Jesus’.the author and finisher of our faith. I would ask you and even beg that you really got serious about your salvation, and begin to look into the Bible study it, read it, commit as much as possible to memory. Remember only the one who runs the race to win, will wear the garland of victory. Never stop Looking unto Jesus!

Until next time,

may God bless and keep you
