Bible Lesson 239

“Therefore, let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.”
1st Corinthians 10:12

“This month we will deal with religion that has grown cold, and its people are fence-sitters. We will consider where we are and why we are.”Brobob .

As we stated before, we want to consider many things about who we are and whose we are. We want to come out of the fog of manufactured religion into that glorious world of being God’s people.

Something that is seldom preached, but is in fact, the Word of God is, that God does not like fence-sitters. What are fence-sitters’ Look around yourself, and you will see them everywhere, as they inhabit most churches in this society.

Fence-sitters appear to us as people who were apparently born in a round-house, because they are hard to corner. They believe everything but believe nothing. They never take a stand, and one day they can believe something, but the next day believe something entirely different.

They are kind of like the clock that has run down, they may be right twice a day, but they are liable to change horses in the middle of the stream. God accuses them of being neither hot nor cold and says He will spew them out of his mouth (Revelation 3:15-16).

How about you, do you know any fence setters’ I’ll be surprised if you can answer no. We should all be able to say that we don’t know any fence-setters; but they are few and far between. What causes fence-setters’

Lack of knowledge of the Truth of God. You see, people who have neglected to study the Bible, the inerrant Word of Almighty God have nowhere to stand and so they perch on the fence, thinking that they have risen above all the problems that we face in our churches.

Preachers should look up, if they want to address the base of their problems, because fence-sitters are the root cause of misunderstandings in the church of the Living God.

Let’s look at what fence-sitters really believe. I can do that because I have been dealing with them for a long time. First they believe that if they can remember John 3:16, that they are saved; and they will normally say, ‘There is enough grace in John 3:16, to save everybody; but it is obvious that they do not know what they are talking about; because if you read it and understand it, it becomes obvious that there are several restriction in John3:16, that cuts a lot of people out of salvation.

Let’s read it and understand it in its content. The crucial word there is ‘believes’, because Jesus says there “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life”. That word believes is one of the most misunderstood words in church congregations today.

Most make it easy and simply that if you mentally think that you believe that saves a person. Not True!!! The Bible tells us that the devils believe, and they tremble. (James 2:19). Others tie believe to joining a church group and being baptized. Again, that falls short of the belief that God requires in our salvation.

The belief there in John 3:16 is a loaded word, loaded with meaning that is only given as a gift from God, where belief, becomes Faith and faith is a gift from God only given in salvation. (Ephesians 2:8-9).

The faith that saves is a faith that behaves like God requires of it. Faith, and belief always ends in obedience to the commandments of Christ. If we read the remainder of John 3:16, we find that there is an outcome from belief and that consists in a newness of life, the saved person loves light not darkness and evil.

So, I rest my case against any and all of the professions of faith that do not change a person from the inside out. If you are a fence-sitter, get off the fence, get down on the right side, but what ever side you get on, God would rather have you there than on the fence. (Revelation3:14-19).

Until next time,

may God bless and keep you
